Adverts
While adverts might be just the filler for your television viewing, the effort made by companies to leave a lasting impression on you can end up costing millions. The artform that is the commercial can take many different shapes, some use subliminal messaging while others can blast you with their product from beginning to end. Here are a few of my favorite adverts, think about which one grabs you the most.
Spike Jonzes’ Gap advert is a fantastic visual feast, where an entire Gap store is destroyed to make way for the “all new Gap”. Compared to the clean cut dancing of Gap ads in the past, this was a big step for the clothing giant. I think its one that paid off, as this is one that has people coming back to watch (over 200,000 youtube views)
A few adverts here from clothing giant Nike. These guys make brilliant commercials and its because they recognize their audience and give it what they want. Want a banging soundtrack, big name directors (Michael Mann, Guy Ritchie), sporting superstars, innovative visual styles? Nike gives it to you and thats why they are ahead of the game. And the Nike football advert is probably the best thing Guy Ritchies done since Snatch.
An interesting one here from Schweppes, they’ve commisioned a short film (they have their own short film festival) and have really only included their product in one part of the entire 12 minute video. But I like this video because its simple, heartfelt and well made. Not exactly an advert but a nice piece of media.
