Recession or not, County Offaly is proving that it is dedicated to Irish film production. FilmOffaly in association with Filmbase are proudly announcing the FilmOffaly Award of 2010. They are looking for unique, original stories from new filmmakers. Novices or professionals. The doors are open to any genre, style, topic or perspective; bring on the shorts, features, and documentaries. The only stipulation is that the filming must take place in Offaly.

The stakes are high. The lone winner will receive €8,000 towards the cost of production, a premier in Tullamore Omniplex Cinema, one year’s Filmbase membership for the writer, producer and director of the winning film, a fifty-percent discount on production equipment and/or editing facilities from Filmbase for the project, and Filmbase’s production insurance to cover the shoot. Basically, your film on a silver platter.

How can I get a chance at this amazing opportunity? I’m glad you asked. Fill out the FilmOffaly 2010 Application Form (found on the website), post it along with three copies of your script and a 500-word synopsis of the film project, and then cuddle up and sweet talk lady luck. The submissions will be judged on its merits regarding the quality of material along with interviews and re-writes by the applicant.

Submissions should be sent by 3pm on Friday 14th May 2010 to:

FilmOffaly Award
Arts Office
Offaly County Council
Tullamore
Co. Offaly

So, let’s recap…

Three copies of your script, a 500-word synopsis, and the FilmOfally Award Application sent to the FilmOffaly Council by Friday 14th May, 2010 could be your golden ticket to success. Good luck and may the best script win.

Music videos are something that we’ve a passion for here at MediaBreakers. We’re currently developing a video for Dublin band, The Kybosh and have been checking out some great music videos on the web of late.

I wanted to share some of my all time favourites. I’ll start with three here and I’m sure I’ll follow up with another few posts

This one’s by the obscenely talented Spike Jonze. He shot the dudes in the video walking backwards and then played the video forwards…confusing?

This is one by none other than Michel Gondry, who also shot Daft Punk’s ‘Around the World’ video many moons ago. I love the fact that this is a two in one deal. Great to watch!

The most recent of the three, this was shot for last year’s The Dead Weather single, ‘Treat Me Like Your Mother’. There’s nothing terribly complicated about this video, it’s just darn cool. Directed by Jonathan Glazer, who is responsible for Karma Police by Radiohead and also the classic, Sexy Beast.

Maybe it’s something to do with the fact that most movies since the 1970s all deal with the same basic themes at their core. Typically the plot involves the main protagonists going on a journey that ends with them being in a better situation (emotionally, financially or physically) than they were in when the film started.

Here is an absolutely class trailer put together by the guys at Britanick.com that deals with just that.

Funny.
